I'd love to suggest pinephone, but it's not really ready to be your daily driver. It's still a work-in-progress.

Luckily picked up those long before I was a dev. It's incredible how much stuff in general you have to explain to a lot of people.

I'll have to come to your school or something too to fill in the blanks sometimes, it seems :)

Oh, wow, did you know that the team is currently "investing up to 50% of our engineering capacity on triaging issues and PRs"? This will definitely restore a lot of the lost faith recently.

..so I will conclude here. Go with Fedora or Ubuntu or Mint if you want to work in a stable (or at least googlable) Linux environment. Pick anything else from for specific purposes. Or lemme know if you wanna chat more directly and I'll help you decide ;)

...X server configuration because my laptop wasn't well configured for. Now, I had to _re-learn_ a bunch. Things I learned 20 years ago, now I had to re-do them because FreeBSD really doesn't hold your hand with such things, like many Linux distros will. Whoa, I said a lot! 12/

There's also the BSD line (not technically Linux but its older brother). Like Dragonfly or whatever. There you will learn even more, or different concepts. E.g. yours trully here has been using FreeBSD for 4 months this year - I wasn't impressed because I had to deal with 11/

Most other distros are spinoffs for a particular use case. Like Kali with its network hacking tools (hacking means learning stuff about networking here). Or Bio Linux. Or elementary which has particular usability goals. Or spinnofs like Fedora Silverblue as immutable desktop! 10/

.. and only wanna learn Linux stuff _in addition_ to that goal, take something stable, like Fedora or Mint or Ubuntu LTS or Debian. Those 3 are basis - manjaro for pacman/arch -based software management, Fedora (or Centos) for dnf/yum and rpm, and Ubuntu /Debian for apt/.deb 9/

..and don't mind locking your computer into a brick from time to time _due to your own misconfiguration_, take something like Manjaro. It is hugely flexible, but it also encourages you to flex your brain around it a lot. If you want to e.g. work or study something or whatever 8/

You can pick a good default that works for you, then you can try many other options and still have your default. Now to your question - which distro. Again: do you wanna just mess with your computer, or do you need to deliver some things regularly? If you are just learning, 7/
