Do we place too much emphasis on proper batting technique? Smith is scoring a whole lot of runs without employing textbook technique:

Hammond was a batting legend. Unfortunately I don't think he is revered or showered with admiration as Jack Hobbs, Len Hutton or Herbert Sutcliffe. He was one hell of a cricketer though.

It was the tenet of the day. Listening to Bradman and Weekes talk about batting you understand the value they placed on their wicket. Many forget that between Bradman (309) and Sehwag (284) is Wally Hammond (295) for the most runs scored by a batsman in a single day of cricket.

Salma Hayek on Harvey Weinstein, in : "No to letting a naked friend of his give me a massage. No to letting him give me oral sex. No to my getting naked with another woman. No, no, no ... And with every refusal came Harvey’s Machiavellian rage."

I still enjoy watching Lillee bowl to Sobers. Giants of the game in immense battle. Marshall still is the best for me. Majestic and diabolic all wrapped in one. That time he hit Andy Lloyd stands out. Reading Lloyd's account gives me chills.

Waqar and Wasim was a formidable attack & when Shoaib joined them in the late 90s those guys were a joy to watch. But yes Larwood and Voce were the standard, Lillee and Thomson were next, Roberts and Holding followed. Roberts was nickamed the by his compatriots.

Wonderful to hear someone speak of Voce and Larwood. Current cricket fans know little of these two. Bill Bowes, Hedley Verity, the left-arm spinner, Gubby Allen and Wally Hammond all constituted a formidable English attack for that Borderline series. Verity was lost to WWII 😢

Some of our players have been around for 3 years and longer. Some have been given extended runs, some haven't been so fortunate. Several who have been fortunate just haven't transitioned to world beaters.

Indeed . The little legspinner who could bat. I look at West Indies and wonder if we can find a gem like Smith or Sobers. Picked as a spinner and then turns out to be one of the greatest batsmen ever.
