It's debatably accurate to call the camps on the southern border "concentration camps." I can see the arguments for and against; it's complicated. But it's not insulting to argue that they are. In fact, it's an important debate to be having.

Hey Rep. Cheney — Jewish grandchild of Holocaust survivors here. isn't demeaning their memories. If anyone is in this conversation, it's you. Don't invoke Jewish trauma to shield present-day human rights abuses from legitimate criticism.

The Kyle Kashuv is situation is telling less for the facts of the situation — he's not the first kid to have his Harvard admission rescinded over racism — than the fact that it shows conservative identity politics in action

Finally, while this piece focuses narrowly on politics, the best case against Democrats moving right on immigration is substantive. More immigration is both good for the US and, more importantly, one of the best ways to improving the lives of the world's most vulnerable.

We've seen this play run in Europe, by the way. Social democratic parties that move right on immigration to defuse the far-right actually tend to empower it and lose votes

Moving left on immigration — towards less cruel enforcement and higher numbers — would probably be pretty good for Democrats' political fortunes
