Are you a non-Brit writing about a British character? Here's a few things that might help with realism: ‘Fanny’ is a rude word. For this reason we don’t have ‘fanny packs’ because if you used that descriptor everyone would fall about laughing childishly.

I am in no position to advise, I forgot breakfast so they had birthday cake instead. The stuff you have planned sounds good- definitely films to settle down with the lights off.

Nine. I know. But that included two of my own and my best friends daughter so three of them dont really count. The timing of yours sounds perfect, particularly the fact she is going to her Dad's. Well played.

How did you get on? One of mine cried and I had to phone her Mum. The others were up all night. I want to sleep all day. I have learned a valuable lesson. Or ten.

I have an 8 year old - she was knackered by 10pm and is asleep, so you may be ok. This lot are unreal.

I am upstairs at the other side of the house and can still hear them. I have a lot of time for Hugh Jackman but I draw a line at this.

Perfect. Half an hour ago I did the whole "let's settle down" chat. They have just put The Greatest Showman Singalong on. All belting it out at the top of their lungs. Yeah, not really settling down that is it girls?

My advice would be not to have a massive sleepover full of 10 year old girls.

Screaming, yes. Them. When I despair I tend to go really quiet. I am the most silent I have ever been. Just heard my 8 year old say "what's a stripper?"

It is very loud. Very bouncy. That's all I can really say. Very loud and bouncy. The dog keeps looking at me like she hates me.

They arrived at 5pm. At 5.10pm I realised I will need a whole load of luck.

I've got eight 10 year old girls at my house for a sleep over. I do not know why I agreed to this.

One of the most helpful things I read in coming to terms with a dear one with dementia was to remember that they are now ‘more a feeling person than a thinking person’ and that they would recall good, warm, loving feelings even as other kinds of memory fell away
