A classical liberal party who rejects the AfD is now governing the state instead of the far-left successor party of the East German dictatorship. This should be celebrated. The hysterical reactions to this are just ridiculous.

What kind of government do you live under? Who are your sexual partners? How do you treat strangers? All of these questions may mask a more fundamental one: What germs are you warding off? psmag.com/social-justice…

The best science will by definition cause political controversies because it challenges and undermines deeply held convictions.
Charles Darwin's "On the Origin of Species" would have never seen the light of day in an environment designed to prevent people from being offended.

Do people who believe that the popular vote should decide who becomes POTUS also believe that, in the European Union, or a hypothetical United States of Europe, 80 million Germans should dominate 10 million Greeks?

This fear isn't necessarily irrational. After all, true democracy is the tyranny of the masses. One can reject this system and its consequences. But then you have to put up with the question of who the real enemies of democracy are.

To win elections, parties must inevitably sow discord, discontent, and pessimism. Only if the electorate is dissatisfied, if people see problems that need to be solved, only then is it possible for parties to present themselves as alternatives and to displace the government.

Yes, there are people on YouTube who spread fear and actively contribute to a division of society. But this is also an integral part of democracy. Democracy lives from the dissatisfaction of the electorate.

The principle of democracy, on the other hand, implies that the average voter is able to form a rational opinion about all kinds of highly complex political, economic, and scientific topics, to then choose the party that best represents these standpoints.

What's implied by this fear is the belief that democracy can function only under the premise that access to information is restricted by the elites.

This same fear is present when it comes to YouTube and other modern tools that potentially allow everyone to influence the opinion of the masses.

It’s an extraordinary thought that there is probably more time BETWEEN the painting of these two horses at Chauvet cave (>30,000 years ago) and Niaux cave (~15,000 years ago) as there is between the Niaux cave art and us #IceAgeArt pic.twitter.com/ZFAq7m2Abf
