I'm working on a course! Serverless Visually Explained will teach you: - wtf serverless is - when & how to use it (use cases!) - best practices & patterns It includes *a simulator* that runs in your browser, and code examples you can deploy on AWS. 👇

Inspired by this great post by and to combat some of the "serverless is so complex!" reactions, I wanted to share what a simpler typical serverless architecture looks like. 🍰 Check out (WIP) for an example/starter

Now, it's amazing to have feedback such as yours, it creates discussion and helps us converge toward always better solutions 🏳 I truly believe serverless can already make a difference, but there is still some work to prove it!

Serverless takes the complexity one zoom above in the app architecture. Its value is not in a simpler architecture but in the capacity of each service (classical in many architectures) to be auto-managed with the potential of saving money hence more focus on business value.

I don't know a lot of big apps that are much simpler. Still, indeed, there is lots of complexity. Why is my take scary? I mixed different architecture zooms, from several "a Lambda = a function" all the way up to a whole DynamoDB or S3.

Beyond that, I'm happy my article generates this kind of discussion. That's a great way to improve the solution together. I guess we all aim at producing great architectures!

I'm the culprit 🤚, don't throw tomatoes🍅 at me, please! Serverless has complexity. If you take a complex Ruby on Rails application, and draw a diagram fine-grained a the code-service level, you will reach something similar. Serverless is taking this complexity one zoom above.

If you work with then you work with . To know S3 well try a great game by Vasily Pantyukhin: The game is very good for learning S3 features and for understanding security issues. It's quite simple — with hints and direct links to docs.

Serverless is buying service-based solutions to technology problems that aren't differentiators, to increase focus on business problems that are.

It's something we still need to clarify internally. We advise to have the very critical user flows covered by integration tests, to not have something too hard to maintain and too expensive, but at the same time being extra careful.

We did set-up fully automated CD pipelines, then it depends on our clients tooling as well. For a clean solution with multiple stages, we have some more improvements to make, but be sure we'll cover it!

Thanks a LOT for the tweet. Hoped it would be helpful, you helped confirm it 🙏. Still a lot of things to discover then cover 🤩.

Went full-on 🔥 to give an overview of what a 💯% architecture looks like in : - If you are new to serverless, this should be insightful 💡 - If not, it'll bring some options to the table, and your feedback will be super valuable 👍!
