Hot take: Conservatives defending DiFi treating bright, engaged kids like crap because they're "being manipulated" to produce "political theater" shows how the right has become unable to see politics as anything but posturing culture war.

That constructive engagement about the terms of common social life is essential to decent human existence, and that it's important to teach children to do it to build a basic civic/human capacity ... seems to elude them.

Kids doing politics can only be "props."

I try to explain my job to my four year old, which is hard, because politics are hard to understand. But I try, even at his age, because its important to understand -- at least as important as understanding electricity.

This isn’t “education” this is cynically using children to argue and then being outraged when there is push back against them. It’s an old activist tactic and it’s evil

1) She didn’t treat any of them like crap (see full vid). 2) I agree that some (older) exceptional kids can pull off “doing politics”, but these kids were clearly put forward as props and it’s gross. 3) This hardly qualifies as constructive engagement.

No “seems” about it. It DOES elude them. There is no engagement with those who should just shut up and do as they are told.

Don't lie to us, as if political sloganeering is "constructive engagement." Not even their teachers were willing to listen to the Senator.

Fully agree. The Right has an abysmal history of mature, civil discourse.

Its brainwashing and manipulation of children to accept the the ideas of others regarding very complex issues to which they cannot possibly comprehend. It's adults, whether parents or teachers, using children to fight their battles.
