i remember reading something about how nvidia had i think millions of tests to ensure their drivers worked properly for various games.
of course, automated tests can be quite tricky to write, and for non-corporate projects, it might not be worth the time investment
|

i think the idea is to have automated tests tho, so you can make sure whatever you wrote didn't accidentally break something else. sure, you could manually replay all the traces, but if you could just have something to automatically run and say "all okay!", it's really nice :)

the drivers aren't inferior by any means, nvidia uses the same codebase for both windows and linux
as others have pointed out, linux regularly hits siginficantly higher framerates (20-40fps more) for vulkan titles using wine than native windows does, e.g. detroit: become human

that's exactly why i started using the vim keybindings haha, the emacs mode for vscode is terrible :(
altho i've also stopped using the vim mode because it doesn't handle 53k loc files very well hahaha
