I love sentences that start: "Miss, in my country..." I'm all in, immediately. It's going to be interesting, or a funny complaint, or a sweet little thing that makes the kid nostalgic. I've got 2 good "in my country" stories, and I want to hear your favourite sentence stems! 👇🏾

6th book of 2020 Talking to Strangers by Malcolm Gladwell How we interact with people we don't know & how we often misinterpret & get it wrong. Great one to listen to as an audiobook as it uses original clips whenever possible. Sounds a lot like Gladwell's excellent podcast.

5th book of 2020 Reclaiming Conversation by Sherry Turkle Recommended by How & why we should be putting down our phones and talking to each other face to face; at work, at home and out with friends. What are we losing when we avoid talking in person?

My inkling would be to go with Google Keep in conjunction with Google Docs: Google Classroom also provides comment bank function but not sure if the bank moves across classrooms or assignments or not:

What program for online grading? Is it the tech or the comment words that elude you?

We see/hear student answers all the time, but most teachers have zero idea on how/why the student answered it the way that they did. Having these conversations with students are definite game changers.

I really appreciate being observed by a colleague who is courageous enough to give me some tough feedback. You don't grow unless you're a bit uncomfortable.

To those of you who give presentations with slide decks, do you put your info on each slide? So people can contact the source if a random picture makes its way somewhere? I love the minimalist approach, but wondering what others do.

The hardest part about going to a conference mid-year is thinking about all of these big shifts you want to make but are hard to accomplish mid year. But at the same time, I don’t want to feel like I’m screwing over my current students and not doing better for them.

Violating Wet'suwet'en territory and having a problem with protests of such really lays bare how talk of reconciliation was only ever lip service.
