Woot! AUR is addictive. Pretty soon you won’t install anything unless it comes packaged… and then… well you end up maintaining more than 20 packages.

Yeah I searched. The consensus seemed to be HTTP responses being sent to a TLS connection... I'm not sure how that would be happening in this case though. Might need to get lower level use Wireshark or something.

Except that it's happening on two browsers (Firefox, Epiphany) and two OSes (elementary 5.3.0 kernel, GNU libc, Void Linux 5.4 kernel musl libc) now. I suppose I could try a 4.19 kernel.

I'm pretty confident they do. I think something is messing up the connection. Epiphany shows other errors too. I might need to try Chromium, its web inspector is better. If I copy as cURL a failed request from Firefox or Epiphany and run it on the command line it works…

That took 3 attempts to send. In Firefox I can see the pre-flight requests failing, which causes the actual request to fail. Just tried Epiphany and it shows this error... pic.twitter.com/abc4DzKCMe

Nup, only thing that might interfere is Firefox's built in tracking protection but I use that on the machines that are fine too (and there's nothing in JS console about relevant requests being blocked).

Hmm the issues I was seeing loading Twitter and Reddit on Void Linux (musl) are still happening on elementary... must be something to do with my network/Wi-Fi and not the distro like I thought.

I ran GNOME on Arch & FreeBSD for a couple of years. It’s ok. I prefer Arch to traditional distros. I’ve found it to be stable and reliable for 3 years. It remains my primary OS for personal and professional work. My laptop is a secondary device that I’m experimenting with.

Also I’m encountering a weird network issue on Void musl where some sites (like Twitter) take multiple attempts to load in Firefox. That was annoying and making me itchy to try something else.

I’m not sure I’d call it a change at this point, more an experiment. I used elementary 3 years ago when I first switched from Mac OS to Linux. Bugs and outdated software were an issue then. I thought I’d see how it is now on the bug front and tackle the software side with Nix.

After 3 years I’m going to give @elementary another try on my laptop (not my primary device). I’ve installed it alongside Void and Windows.
I’m toying with the idea of using Nix or pkgsrc to help manage the installation of up to date dev dependencies and preferred tools.
