Incredibly useful figure on CFR/R0 (how fatal/how infectious) for #nCov2019 created by @IsaacATFlorence - he's a rising star in global health policy & works with us at @GlobalHealthGP . pic.twitter.com/flOiH2OCYA

New preprint from my postdoc with @mpespeni on how rapid adaptation to warming, acidic oceans can limit plasticity and resilience in copepods. The first of many copepod papers with great UConn collaborators! @Baumannlab1 doi.org/10.1101/2020.0…

Jim Carrey in The Shining was the best deep fake I’ve seen: youtu.be/HG_NZpkttXE
Seems like in the future we’ll be able to cast whoever we want for films.

I think then it's nice to be a Bayesian — sample from the posterior distribution. But it's a good question, and I'm not sure.

Listening to Marisa Anderson while coding up some bootstrap CIs for a non-linear least squares model I've estimated. It appears this is another good example of why non pivot-based CIs are dangerous and misleading.

One of the nice things about Andrew Gelman's blog is how benign posts routinely produce deep debates about foundations of statistics. This time, the concept of "calibration" (see comments): statmodeling.stat.columbia.edu/2020/02/01/for…

This was Stephen J. Gould’s favorite example of an “organ of extreme perfection” sensu Darwin, that evolved through gradual steps...it is *of course* driven by a parasitic life history. I urge you to watch this. It’s one of the most amazing adaptations... youtu.be/I0YTBj0WHkU

That's one race — and research in house/senate races shows moderates win. Nate Silver has made this point again and again and again. (twitter.com/natesilver538/…, twitter.com/natesilver538/…, twitter.com/natesilver538/…). You're reading into one race when we have a lot of data elsewhere.

Yes, that would be terrific if voters voted around this one issue, in their own self interest. But voters do not vote only around single issues and they are mislead about the facts around healthcare. The poorest states are also the most republican.

btw, there is empirical evidence to support this (p. 5 has more references). I think with gerrymandering this effect has been lessened for House elections. andrewbenjaminhall.com/Hall_Snyder_Id…
