Smith: “He’ll get better and better. He hasn’t had an awful lot of chances so far but I’ll probably name you 14 other clubs’ centre-forwards who won’t get a chance at Tottenham.”

Smith: “He’s settled straight away. I can see that every day in training. He’s shown potential in his performances so far and that potential will come through. He never hides away from the ball, he goes and competes.”

Dean Smith: “What are we coming to if we’re judging players after two games? There have been questions about him (Wesley) playing in the Premier League but he played in the Champions League last season – he’s not too shabby.” [guardian]

For everyone travelling to villa park tomorrow: it’d be a great touch if there was to be an applause on the 12th minute in memory of Rhys Jones who was killed 12 years ago today. I’m sure this would mean a lot to Rhys’ family. Share this to raise awareness and make it happen!

Smith: “The work permit was given very early but it was then just about getting the passport back to him and getting him in the UK. He’s a really talented player but he’s also a very young player as well.“

Smith: “That was the problem Man City had. But there’s a totting up of points to get the permit and we just felt the points were there for us. The only delay was administrative, he had to go and get his passport sent from Brazil to the UK to get stamped with the visa.”

Smith: “Pep said: ‘You’ve got a really good lad there’. There is no better endorsement for the boy. We felt that when we’d spoken to Man City and with the figures they were looking for, we could go and process a work permit for him.”

Dean Smith: “Douglas (Luiz) is Pep’s loss and my gain. I met Pep (Guardiola) recently at the League Managers’ meeting and he spoke to me then, he was very disappointed they couldn’t get that work permit.” [express & star]
