That was an awesome shock the first time it happened.

Had SF2 not appeared shortly after, there is a world where the Pit-Fighter mold would have taken hold, aka fighters are not locked into the same X axis, but can move around like in a scrolling beat em up and players vs AI characters, another nod to beat em ups

It was not “good” but you have to admit that it was ground breaking in its graphics, scaling, tons of digitized sprites, the crowd injuring you if you got close, three players simultaneously, etc. And it was pre-SF2.

And I didn’t bother and just bought a PC the next year for about $1000(guessing 1500 DM) but with a monitor and a hard drive (which isn’t far from the price of a 1200 with those add one) and it could play Tomb Raider the next year... and access the internet.

Wolfenstein, wing commander 2, (or 1 for that matter which was already two years old...), Day of the Tentacle...

The point is they were landmark titles for the A500 and mere backward compatibility a system does not make.

So... a souped up version of RC Pro-Am, an update of Asteroiss, one of the worst games of all time, Super. Are but not as good, a two year delayed Genesis port, and a one year delayed Genesis port? On a machine released the same year as Wolfenstein 3D

Which is why the more affordable 500 was the first model to give the ST a run for its money. And I was in Germany in 92 when the 1200 came out, and most of my friends had VGA PCs

You also will have a hard time finding AGA games that set the world on fire the way Cannon Fodder, Turrican, Lemmings and Settlers did. The 1200 was nice but too little too late.

Not a where but a when question. When originally launched in 85, the Amiga made no real impact on the market be it in NA or Europe. The A500 gave the platform a fighting chance in 87. The 1200 came out in 92, long after VGA had made its mark and 16 bit consoles were out.

The AGA machines weee nice but didn’t have the amazing impact of the 500, the machine that saved the Amiga from obscurity IMO

I remember seeing Pit-Fighter for the first time and being astonished by the digitized graphics. They truly felt like harbingers of a new era in game graphics.

Seeing as neither Warhawk nor LifeForce(aka Salamander) are on this list, I have to vote for RType as both the C64 and Speccy versions were technical marvels.

Torn between Hostages and Stunt Car Racer. I played both for ages on both the C64 and the Amiga. Hostages felt so atmospheric and like a precursor to the tactical FPS. But SCR had multiplayer and those amazing 3D graphics... SCR for the win.

Oh... tough one... If we just work off of the game libraries at the time of release (aka no A500 compilation discs for the CD32) Keep: NES (Dr Mario, Bomberman, TMNT 2&3, Shatterhand) Gift: TG16 (Splatterhouse, Devils and Alien Crush) Bin the CD32 (Just not enough good software)
