Interesting discussion. Isolationist trade policy will keep us stagnated in global trade paradigm. Toast of the future is to allign with FTA forums to derive max benefits

It's not a computer game that we go nuking around . War is a serious business and decision to deploy of WMD is even more serious and no country can justify such actions in today s scenario

Chinese engagement in IOR can be mostly attributed to the lethargy of India s foreign policy of yesteryears which the former fully capitalized on . Things seem to be looking up now with a professional at the helm of affairs in MEA hopefully for the better.

Results were on expected lines but having learned the hidden costs on sovereignty concealed in the BRI package , I don't think SL would tilt strategically towards the Chinese fold . Yes , they will welcome investments to boost their domestic economy , but nothing beyond it .

ICBM s in my view are mere technology demonstrators . No responsible nation state would ever fire such long range missiles . Any technical flaw in the homing system especially during critical phases would be catastrophic .

Also note that deployment of a carrier is a combination of strategic and a tactical decision. A carrier transits through a sanitised zone which ensures a three dimensional security bubble . A general input for information without dwelling on intricacies of maritime operations

A carrier has many roles notably strike on coastal maritime assets , port facilities, interdiction of shipping both Naval and commercial in addition to power projection. One should also note that shore borne maritime strike ac have many limitations which s overcome by a carrier.

The statement that adversaries are only restricted to across the border is wrong . A formidable blue water Navy s strength lies in three dimensional power projection and the Carriers form a main link in the chain . The number of carriers however depends on many factors

Most importantly an aircraft carrier is a strategic asset with flexibility to project air power from sea towards achievement of overall aim . Hence need for carriers cannot be compromised or put aside linking it with battle scenarios of yesteryears . 2/N

Totally disagree with statement that adversaries are across land border which in my view is very myopic and does not augur with India's current foreign policy . Strategically Indian ocean and maritime security remains a vital facet in decades ahead and we need to think ahead. 1/N

By the way Indian Navy ships also carry out refuelling at sea from STUFT during major exercises . Stern fuelling method is adopted .

True . Think tanks or analysts can have their opinion on India s foreign policy objectives which is mostly a matter of academic interest or an occupational hazard . The EAM s straightforward response is what is of relevance because he is fully informed on all aspects of FP
