yes but sub cos have fundamentally very different objective of having them. digital ad cos : data -> improve product -> drive engagement -> more effective targeted ads. sub cos : data -> improve product -> drive more subs.

the concern is not that they use data to manipulate us or get them to influence or decisions. it’s more to do w allowing such unvetted access to the data via api. i’m not sure if nflx/amzn/wmt does any of the latter.
