Romney is the first senator to vote to convict a president of his own party, but it seems just as notable to me that he was also the party's previous presidential candidate

The major American parties have ceded unprecedented power to primary voters, @jon_rauch and @raylaraja write. It’s a radical experiment—and it’s failing. on.theatln.tc/vTH1GFH

Question: how can LA policymakers reduce traffic, pollution, and housing costs?
Answer: stop forcing apartments and stores to build parking.

SC 2020, then, is a kind of perfect storm for crossover voting incentives (or the disincentives are low anyway). An early open primary, no GOP primary opposite it and with no partisan public oath. 10/

One observation after seeing a Bernie rally upclose in IA. The scorched-earth tactics against other Dems still practiced by Sanders and his campaign are totally unnecessary, and counterproductive at this point if he actually wants to be elected president.

This took me a long time to understand: homes get cheaper over time if & only if enough new ones are being built to keep up w/ population.
The California finding “it takes 65 million years for new construction to become affordable” is a locally specific symptom of underbuilding. twitter.com/lenkiefer/stat…

Sanders did get a modest turnout bump over 2016 in the precincts he won, and the way Iowa state delegate equivalents are apportioned based on number of 2016 precinct attendees is hurting him a bit in translating votes -> delegates twitter.com/Taniel/status/…
