Always good to read an honest blog post about rust's shortcomings. It's not a 100% slam dunk, ever. And that's OK. I still enjoy writing it and I live on nightly where speed boosts happen week-to-week. Debug builds have gotten very snappy for me.

🤔 is this dynamic dispatch? Those are macros which turn in to fixed sized, stack-y, method? Or is it because they can invoke things like `Display` and `Debug` which are a pointer-walk away? I may have just convinced myself it's dynamic dispatch.

Cilium requires far too much memory, 300MB is a lot to dedicate per server. Especially when you consider 1GB is a $5/month droplet. Talking a few dollars per server just for networking overhead.

@digitalocean love the onboarding experience for k8s. but unfortunately the overhead is way too high! the resource requests for kube-system pods is way too high compared to what k top shows. a lot of work to tune that back down.

It's called the standard mileage rate from the IRS. They have worked out maintenance and depreciatiation costs that go in to each mile: irs.gov/newsroom/irs-i… . $0.575 in 2020. So $5 only covers the wear/tear and liability on the car, not even the time of the driver. Tough game.

It's extremely not fun to work hundreds of hours on a code base, brainstorm things, make trade-offs, and then get a mob of people who skim over your code in 30 seconds then tell you that you're so bad at programming that you should never write Rust ever again.

I'm terrified of ever having a popular opensource library. What happened to actix-rs sounds like a nightmare. I'll probably try proprietary licenses where people can read the code and use it for small project, if only to keep from becoming popular.

I tried out IntelliJ in 2013 to do some Java for a contract. It helped me stumble my way to solution and I loved it for it. Then the excellent Rust brought me back as a daily user! I'd love to get to use CLion for a while! #IJ19Bday

Dev tip: Add "after:2018" to the end of every Google search for solutions to technical issues. It filters the results with fewer clicks. 💁🏾♀️

git rebase isn't about "hygiene" or "moving commits to a different branch" or anything else. it's about saving face after it takes you 37 tries to get travis working
