I've been away the past few days - but I want to give this a bit of second wind. This interview was taped around mid-May. Because TSSZ closed, only the first 20 minutes or so aired the night before, on May 30. If it's the last interview I ever do, I will be at peace with it.

I've spent most of this year building up my Sega music collection, and I'm really pumped for this.

Unfortunately, we're probably going to get to the point if another global recession hits where game streaming is DMCA'd or Content ID'd just like other media is. If this pandemic lasts a significant amount more time, it could well be during this one. Don't say you weren't warned.

We're already seeing the waters tested with more devs getting into eSports. They have control up to the entire org structure, they can make money by selling tournament rights and ad time, and it's still free publicity for the product. The upside to bringing it in-house is there.

For some devs, it won't be greed but necessity that drives the effort. The industry has been OK during the pandemic, but for it and other industries that involve media and content creation, revenue stream diversification is quickly becoming essential for support and survival.

Alex Hutchinson may not be the best person to say what he said (I know a little something about that) but he's right. Nintendo already tried to control the tap (they still kinda do), and as soon as game devs/pubs figure out a way to do it successfully, streamers are in trouble.

This was actually confirmed on their Discord a while back. As mentioned before we continue to work with Tristan () and others on matters. While progress is slow as we're currently focusing on restoring our own content so we can finally go live again, we are

Like...you all know I had to be consulted on both ends of the preservation effort, right? And that I could have Thanos'd the whole thing pretty fast if I really wanted?

Unfortunately it's difficult in this community, in any gaming community--much less one that exists on Twitter--to successfully parse legitimate concern amid trolling. Believe me, I tried during. (Also, this isn't "politics" - this is basic human decency we're talking about here)

Agreed (though I don't think "sympathetic" is the right word in this case--"support" is) - but were also a ton of alt-right bigots who basically went "BRUH" at what I said and ran with it. I welcome disagreement as long as it's...you know, civilized? Like what we're doing now.

(Also, I'd argue *lots* of people have problems with gaming entities covering non-gaming stuff, even when the two intersect, as I've seen today - and if that's not the case, where's Sonic Retro's statement of support for the protests in late Spring/Summer?)

I respectfully disagree. "When the dust settles" means less will care. And if you've noticed--I'm still having these discussions and still getting blowback. Save for one other place, no other place or name in this community has tried to use their platform for good on this at all.

I've had this discussion before. When exactly is the right time to have these discussions? That the answer for most seems to be "at my own convenience" is why most of society--not just Sonic people--has as much ignorance toward social injustice and racism as it does.
