One of the coolest things about parenting is all the opportunities to replace vague emotional angst with a deluge of practical problems at a moment's notice.

Feels a lot like one of those cartoons where a character runs clean off a cliff, but doesn't start falling until they notice the ground is gone.

There's:
A great sense of loss, of something important having passed forever.
A bewildering mix of new needs, faculties, capabilities that feel enormously constrained by various social and practical circumstances.
A total clusterfuck of emotional lability.

Having a pretty brutal round of post-divorce emotional release.
Feels a bit like... being a teenager again?
I don't know what I was expecting, but it wasn't this.

It's one thing that most major states' war films are obvious agitprop, but it's also pretty funny to see how the footsoldiers are mobilized here.
No media plausibly likely to influence mass politics may go unamplified/opposed.

Reading a propaganda piece masquerading as a review of a Norwegian series, written by someone from the thankfully defunct Foreign Policy Initiative.
This piece is in response to a Russian propaganda piece masquerading as a diplomatic missive.
Good times for art critics.

Literally can't recall interacting with him, and I'm blocked, so...
(I occasionally say mean things about LessWrong, but not @ him.)

Right? Enjoying it very much.
Pretty big upgrade from the silly little pewter triquetra I used to wear a few years back.

Too real. I heard this tweet as my girlfriend asking if I've downloaded that movie yet.

I don't think I know anyone apart from perhaps my mother with such a surplus of practical intelligence. If there is a problem, she has a fix.
She's as creative as she is clever. It's really unnerving to see how quick she is to grasp things that take me a long time to parse out.

Okay, so for serious:
She has dark, curly hair and darker eyes to go with it.
Her complexion makes her look right at home near the Mediterranean, and not at all like she was born near Warsaw.
Next to each other, we look dark and light, short and tall. Like a Baroque painting.

"Can I say more nice things about you on Twi-"
"Absolutely not."
I turn around, she's smiling a big, sweet smile.
My hand inches closer to my hobby knife. You know, just in case.
Just in case she's serious.

She... has asked me for another match. Tonight. I have one hour.
I am reading a book and drinking strong beer.
Light a candle for me.
Please.

People who talk about demons always seem faintly ridiculous unless they've either:
Had contact with child sexual abuse or other Actual Evils.
or
Had a really good look at themselves.
