He's from Varanasi right? That's where I just arrived and I read he is doing a lot to improve services here

I bought a last-minute, 7.5 hour train ticket today in India and not only did it leave on time, it arrived a full 25 minutes early. WHERE AM I?!

I'm moving to NYC in March and my biggest worry is not being able to make queer friends

That'd be a sweet deal since Grindr is my go-to app πŸ˜‚ but I'm afraid it's hard to publish about dating & sex abroad and still be taken seriously as a travel writer, but who knows - I just might do it!

Haha yeah I've considered it. I'd love to write a semi-anonymous column about dating and travel, but someone's gotta pay me to make it worth the effort!

I'd love to tell you about all the multi-million dollar travel companies, OTAs, airlines, hotels, and restaurants that repeatedly ask me to work for free

🌈 CONUNDRUM: Mumbai gay pride takes place while I'll be here in India. I'd like to go but I've already visited the city and replanning my itinerary will throw my budget out of whack. Solution? Get some freelance writing gigs - know any pubs interested in my take on gay Mumbai??

And so when I was at the Taj Mahal this weekend (for the second time in my life because I'm extremely lucky), I opened and called my Dad. He's never been back but his stories and mementos from his travels are 100% the reason I'm standing here now. Thanks Dad! -end-

I grew up seeing those photos every day. They were just sitting there. The background of my lifeβ€”but they were there. (7)

In my house growing up, one of those packages he sent home sat in a frame hanging on the living room wall (it's still there). His photos from a market in Sri Lanka still hang above the kitchen table. (6)

Stories of how he'd have to arrange a phone call to his parents weeks in advance, time it carefully with coins in a payphone. (4)

I grew up my whole life hearing the story of his big trip: an extended stay in Paris studying at the Sorbonne, tales of hitchhiking through Afghanistan, buses in Nepal, trekking and hiking the world. (3)

His goal was to get to the Taj Mahal - a place he'd dreamed of visiting for years before (there's a lot more to that dream, but it's his story to share, not mine). (2)
