Blog tours: this comes up a LOT in the Savvy Writers' Snug I run on Facebook. So I wrote an article about this very subject, a must-read for any authors unfamiliar with the ins and outs.

It's a lot to think about, I know, with lots of nuances. If you want to read more about this, I did a blog post so head on over: (9)

Of course, it isn't always as clear cut as this. But I DO see the same mistakes being made by authors who, after being encouraged by other authors to persevere, eventually have no choice but to give up because they didn't seriously think about their game plan for change. (8)

Isn't it better to 'Be More Biden'? What I mean by this is show a true willingness to adapt to surprises and circumstances by experimenting and playing around a bit with, say, a new genre? Less stubborn, more open minded. 'POSSIBILITIES!' as he would say. (7)

Of course, this is fine if an author's not bothered about earning money or attracting readers. But if an author wants to build a groundswell of readers, enough to generate money and / or publishing deals, then the 'Trump approach' to perseverance simply isn't going to work. (6)

Isn't this a bit like authors who refuse to adapt, meaning they continue writing the same old stuff, despite all the signs telling them it’s not working? 'I write from the heart!' they'll scream as their writing career struggles to keep afloat. (5)

Now let's think about Trump. Again, there are many reasons for his loss. But the fact he strode down the same old path during his campaign, refusing to adapt, didn't help. And now he's taking perseverance to the extreme as he refuses to accept losing despite the signs. (4)

Let's look at Biden. This is his third attempt at presidency. What changed this time? Among many many other things, some say it was down to his willingness to flex and change with the tide of all the surprising things that happened this year. (3)

Let's start with this: while it's tempting to tell authors not to give up when going through tough times, the truth is, this could be doing them a disservice. Isn't it better to first ask: what's the plan of action if you don't give up? Is it Biden-esque... or Trump-esque? (2)

👇Author thread alert 👇 Watching the US presidential campaign unfold has made me think a lot about giving up. I don’t mean I want to give up! I mean, when things dry up for an author (sales, deals), what can we learn about perseverance from Biden and Trump? (1)

How do you de-stress / unwind? Writing used to be my hobby so when it became my 'job', I struggled to find a new hobby... until now! I bought myself a Nintendo Switch and am OBSESSED! My fave game is The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. What about you guys? Anyone a gamer too?

This is going to be your year if you've ever run a disappointing Winter Wonderland. After 2020, half a can of fake snow and a dog wearing a broken pair of antlers will look like the Great Exhibition.

👇One childhood memory stands out: the day her father decided to bring Christmas forward to November. Though she didn’t know why, her instincts screamed something was wrong. A few days later, she learnt why when the past he’d kept shrouded in mystery finally caught up with him.👇
