Two years ago tonight, a gas explosion killed seven people at the Flower Branch Apartments in Silver Spring. The apartments that were destroyed are now being rebuilt. Many people are still affected by what happened-there is a vigil being held near here tonight.

PGPD chief says uniformed officer shot armed suspected drug dealer on Sheriff Road around 9:15 p.m. Says they’d received tip about him , he ran after seeing the police, they tackled him and then he reached for his gun. Chief describes suspect as stable and undergoing surgery.

DC’s Mamie Johnson Little League got back from Little League regionals in Connecticut tonight. Although they didn’t win, just going was a giant step & the coach hopes it’s the start of something big for baseball in Southeast DC. First predominantly black team from DC ever to go.

I wish we could do that. Unfortunately DC is one of the few places that doesn’t publicly release mug shots. Most cities do.

A local man is facing a hate crime charge for allegedly smashing an African American man in the head with a bicycle lock and repeatedly screaming the "N-word" at him in Georgetown. The victim shared his story with tonight:

An exclusive tonight at 11 - a man beaten in the head in an alleged hate crime Monday wants to warn other men of color it could happen to them, especially with a white nationalist rally coming to DC Sunday. He says the man who attacked him used the n-word repeatedly.

Ketchazo Paho of Bethesda says a man smashed him in the head w/a bicycle lock after repeatedly calling him the n-word in Georgetown early Monday. Before that the man had damaged Paho’s car. 24 yr old Maxim Smith is in jail charged w/an assault being investigated as a hate crime.
