re: topic about trouble connecting AirPods connecting to your Mac: have you tried 's ToothFairy? I don't have as complex of a setup as you, but it works great for me & might be worth checking out. ($5, or in )

I did consider it but I thought the problem was probably a fundamental brokenness nothing would fix. Like my soul. I’ll give it a try, though!

Well, if I understand how giving people money on the Internet works, if you buy the app for $5 and anything about it doesn't work, you have the right to expect to come to your house and fix everything. That's just science.

Unfortunately, ToothFairy doesn’t seem to fix my problem. It says the AirPods are connected, but the audio still comes out the MacBook’s speakers and after about 30 seconds it says they’re disconnected.

There are some troubleshooting ideas here, which are also relevant to unexpected disconnections: Or, there could be a hardware or macOS issue.
