I did notice some strange horizontal glitches on the Astra though that disappeared / moved based on where it was aiming

Part of it is that we are able to filter low quality/inaccurate depth pixels which Kinect/PS don't do.

ah, so you get a constant 0 instead of noise for inaccurate parts

Right! Since on-chip we calculate depth at 1280x1024 we can determine depth pixel quality. No depth smearing.

to be fair If you look at the collar of my shirt it doesn't look like the kinect is showing low quality pixels.

really curious as filling holes is fairly hard and at least from my initial comparison you might lose data
