Thank you & for fighting to ensure our immigrant communities have a right to counsel. When I visited immigration courts w/ I met families without attorneys or means to pay for one. This cannot continue in NY.

Today, New York became the 1st state to introduce legislation to guarantee all immigrants, regardless of income, a lawyer when facing deportation. No person should have to navigate our complex legal system without expert help. NY needs to pass the Access to Representation Act!

New legislation is being introduced in New York to grant immigrants at risk of deportation the right to an attorney. “Without legal help these are the people who are left to be subject to what can be a very byzantine and complex legal process."

It can take 7-12 times to convince someone that . Not all of it has to be in person! CBOs can: 💌Put a pledge in your email signatures ☎️Have a phone line? Change the hold music to a Census message! 📃Place fliers in wait rooms, elevators, restroom stalls

From our first panel, Health and Welfare Council of Long Island shares the biggest barrier to the census this year: lack of knowledge on the impact on the census on all of our funding. We need to incorporate census into EVERYTHING n tailor our message.
