Then you should know better than anyone that it's NOT going to be helpful long term to be uncritical of disingenuous "support" that's going to be dropped (or worse, turned against you for lulz) the moment it's convenient.

Only in the sense that you're tweeting a nearly decade-old Halloween costume and a "so-what" marinade-hack from almost as long ago like you just found a magic gotcha.

In this case, what they know is that Beijing ACTIVELY looks for excuses to strongarm studios over content because they can, so they want to manufacture one for them.

Because it's not also telling me I should take the f*cking war-rhinocerous exactly as (if not more) seriously than the frankly-stated dialogue about generational trauma and the impact of the slaver trade.

By contrast, something like BLACK PANTHER - which only demands that you take the stuff that's *actually serious* in it seriously - carries off the "role of geopolitical powers in the global south" bit that BVS in its directors cut *tries* to touch on better IMO.

...and their just pulling stuff out of old horror movies and D&D and Conan movies, y'know? And there's nothing wrong with that, until you try to tell me it's MORE.

...in the same way that a lot of metal bands (which I LOVE!) reference mythology and old gods and paganism/satanism to sound deep and epic... but then when you talk to these guys or read their interviews MOST of them don't really know *anything* about the stuff...

I'm working at the moment so not getting into a long discussion about this, but suffice it to say I simply don't agree: I think both films WANT to do those things, but they've also both got very dumb, shallow scripts that know how to SOUND and LOOK like they've got big ideas...

If the "Snyder Cut" exists (I also never said it DIDN'T, I said that if it DOES it's an unfinished work-print thing full of plate shots, animatics, empty greenscreen, etc - they didn't junk a whole completed movie) I'd be curious to see it. My objection has been to the behavior.

...and then panicking when audiences immediately turned against their take with several features already in production - a TERRIBLE idea at all levels.

...they'd let Snyder finish the movie even though I think it would still be bad and disliked his take on the material overall. But there's no cover-up or conspiracy, it's just a production disaster largely caused by a badly-run studio greenlighting a string of expensive movies...

That's not a cover-up, it's just a movie studio managing its property in a way you don't prefer. They weren't happy with where the project was going, they made changes they thought were for the best. I don't know if they were right, and not that anyone ASKED ME but I'd rather...
