Carson is ‘diversity,’ and wasn’t technically allowed on the plane - was just there for the photo op. After all, it is Black History Month!

Teachers should never use deficit language to describe a people. And they should know better - they are the adults in the classroom. Textbooks are often incorrect and biased. We must intentionally do better. It’s lazy to rely on any text book as the single source of information.

You are quite welcome. 😊 If you need an accountability partner, let me know. I too am on sabbatical and am using the guidelines I shared.

1. Schedule alternate work days (ie. M-W-F only) and establish SMART goals. 2. Schedule time to relax and enjoy friends and family - you earned it! 3. If you can, join a gym and / or take a trip! 4. Relax - after all, you are tenured! 😂

Please note, Rosa Parks IS the Mother the Civil Rights Movement. She literally dedicated her life to the advancement of Black people and, in many ways, paved the way for Dr. King. Today, in fact, is Mrs. Parks’ Birthday! (b. 1913). Selah

Thanks. Homelessness and food insecurity have increased in recent years and must be addressed in student achievement data -

Dear Educators, Claudette Colvin, a 15-year old Black girl, refused to give up her seat to a white woman on a crowded, segregated bus more than nine months before Rosa Parks’ arrest sparked the 1955 Montgomery bus boycott, which marks the beginning of the Civil Right Movement.

Why not explain: 1. No one is born a slave. 2. Africans were kidnapped and brought to America where they were forcibly enslaved / made to work for free. 3. As part of the lesson, the class can cross out the word slave and write ‘enslaved person’ / ‘forcibly enslaved person.’
