To be clear, the other movements do have edits, but they’re shockingly minor. A couple bars taken out here, a beat there; the quasi-entirety of the original sources, inluding their form, is present in the work.

The one exception is the last movement, where there’s quite a bit of rewriting / paraphrasing / extrapolation. But it’s the only one. And I’m doing my own extrapolation from the original sources, so no issue there.

Actually, no. I thought the same but in fact it’s unbelievably verbatim. I’ve studied the score carefully and compared it to the original sources, and it’s truly astonishing how much he achieved by doing so little. It’s 95% just a work of orchestration, by a genius.

It’s a commission by the Stresa Festival! A really good idea, and not mine. Also there are major rights issues with using any of Stravinsky’s music, so it makes sense to use something he actually didn’t write...

Been working 12-hours days the past week reimagining Stravinsky’s Pulcinella (which itself is an arrangement of pieces by 18th century composers) for my trio. Been super fun. I don’t think there’s anything quite as therapeutic as doing work you care about.

Well if it *sounds* bad (I should sit down and play it) then it’s a problem!!

Pretty well masked by the inner melody in the alto though, plus the contrary motion in the soprano.

Sounds about right, knowing you and having heard a lot about him, including from a former band mate of his.

No no — I know that Getz and Gilberto played together a lot. I was referring to the fact that Ted Gioia played with Getz, which I didn’t know.
