I have long stopped following Mohun Bagan-East Bengal. Lifeling East Bengal fan despite growing up amid a sea of MB supporting ghotis.

Let us focus on ways of growing the incomes of the workers instead of focusing on the gap. We have limited bandwidth for policymaking. It should be focused on trying to generate higher income for the vast majority. The gap will take care of itself.

Problem is worker pay is too low in India. In absolute terms CEO pay in India is low globally.

Nehru vs Nehruvians. Ambedkar vs Ambedkarites. UCC as a goal is enshrined in the Constitution. Today, Nehruvians and Ambedkarites claim that it is a violation of secularism. They are with the League.

Agree. I am biased in not being a unquestioning devotee of free trade, especially in a world where other countries use trade policy as part of a larger strategic objectives.

Although it will never be politically possible. Land ownership and the ability to extract rents simply by squatting is the enemy of capitalism.

The only successful instances of sustained growth in developing countries happened in places where there were confiscatory land reforms. To be sure, it was agricultural land. Singapore govt still owns 70% of land. Land is where I think comprehensive socialization makes sense.

Rental yields are pretty good in the US, especially after the housing bubble bust. However, it has come at the cost of crushing rental burden. The answer is that land prices are too high around the world. Our atavistic obsession with land, a relic of agrarian past is the problem.

Also, the rate of FDI into India has far outpaced the rate of FDI into other developing countries. If you take out India, rest pretty stagnant.

The word "reform" for neolibs is like "proletarian struggle" to communists. How can you be against it, although I am finding it hard to see what reform Modi has reversed?

Yes, but it was a regressive tax increase, coming after a massive top marginal tax rate cut from 70 to 28.
