"If there's anything I hate more than not being taken seriously, it's being taken too seriously." Happy birthday to the incomparable Billy Wilder, a singular filmmaker who gave us some of the most brilliantly crafted and entertaining films of all time. 💗

The film has much visual inventiveness that showcases Garland’s talent - the whole world in this movie is literally a stage

A STAR IS BORN is many things, include a backstage musical, and it is painful to watch Norman listen to the playback

This "Born in a Trunk" section reminds me of the "Broadway Melody" section of but with singing instead of dancing. A sidebar to highlight the main star's talents.

Incredible composition. Minnelli and Cukor are genius at mise-en-scene.

There’s a realism to this version that is very realistic even the nerves about a opening

Love the way this scene is staged as Judy’s voice floats in from outside and envelops the room. There is no mistaking that unmistakable voice

Never underestimate the fragility of film, even a well known film like A STAR IS BORN has missing footage. Glad they restored this using stills
