I realize this isn't a constant though, depending on where you are in your career. Early on, I was more than happy to take a hit on time/energy/etc because I was being compensated with different values, namely: experience, personal branding, networking, audience building 🤷‍♂️

A good example from my past is React Static. It had a fair amount of users, tons of promise, BUT zero sponsors and almost no affiliation with 's end goal. Next.js came out with a massively awesome release a while back and it was literal no brainer decision to sunset it.

I have 1 very strict personal rule about OSS that I don't talk about much, but I need to: 📐 My OSS MUST contribute to the success of whatever private venture I'm currently working on (currently ) AND/OR be sustainable via regular and recurring sponsorships/advertising.

🎉🎉 Big news for CodeSandbox and its future! I’m thrilled to announce that we’ve raised a $12.7 million Series A round! 🎉🎉 I’m beyond excited, and want to thank everyone again (just like last week) for helping CodeSandbox grow to where it is now.

It shouldn’t. You should file a bug with a codesandbox that shows that happening.

I think raising issues is great and understanding that it may not be tended to or implemented is the perfect expectation.

Ironic right? 😂 I hope the ecosystem starts to get used to this more though, because sponsorships and OSS philanthropy isn't changing fast enough. I'm starting to settle into the same camp as , prepping to use my own OSS to support future paid services/tools.

If your employer wants it and it happens to not be in the greater use-case of the library, then they should weigh the choice: sponsoring/donating/petitioning/lobbying😂/considering-the-use-case-validity vs forking/maintaining/assuming-full-responsibility-for-the-library-code

Also, I'm discovering that React Table's plugin system is actually many small plugin systems working together. so plugins are actually a collection of smaller plugins that theoretically could be accurately typed. So it's definitely feasible.

"Is it in TypeScript?" Yes. "I'm seeing an `any` and `unknown` here though..." You didn't ask if it was 100% type safe 😂

Nope. I'm decided to keep the current system and just type as much of it as I can, incrementally making it better.

You could also say that OSS projects funded by big tech (as marketing for their products, like Vercel) also do this, albeit at their own discretion with no guarantees. In the end, if/when Remix grows significantly, they'll definitely need to scale support with it.

Paid open-source alts are almost always support-driven and the premium support I'm assuming they will include with it will likely make perfect sense for a fair share of the market.
