It really wouldn't kill iPad to have something like this. I think Apple missed an opportunity to provide a tabbed document/app model that would have made multiwindow trivial for regular users — you would know exactly what windows are open, and you could drag them out separately

There's plenty of iPad's multitasking UI that I think is great at a conceptual level, but affordances (like a tab bar, or window controls) just aren't there for users who don't want to have to learn arcane gestures. Even I lose track of what windows are open in iPad's junk-drawer

How many iPad users have multiple tabs open in MobileSafari and are completely fine with managing them? …and how many, at the same time, struggle with the multiwindowing UI in iOS 13, or splitscreen? Tab bars work

I found out the other day that I had three Safari windows open … one of them lived in a Split View and the other in Slide Over? It’s a mess, man.
