Our new paper now out in GRL uses satellite observations to show significant trends in eastern fire emissions of NO2 over recent years, leading to worsening air pollution.

And don’t forget that we had no laws under the EU. And it was definitely them that decimated our industrial heritage.

Of one thing I am certain: if I worked in a “drop off and leave it with us”-style Apple laptop repair shop, I would have real problems preventing myself constantly singing the music of Mark Morrison. Assuming that we occasionally had successfully completed jobs.

This study by considered a similar analysis going back to 1970s, and includes the UK. Huge impacts of EU policies! Nice video abstract:

I do realise that most of the problem is the traffic. The system is creaking. Needs a complete rethink. But that costs money.

Still, I’m sure all that planned investment in the North will sort all this out. Looking forward to seeing how things improve over the coming 5 years.

For perspective, that is one hour for the bus to travel 2.7 miles (assuming it left its Leeds starting point on time). Literally slower than waking pace. North Leeds transport is severely broken.

Today is my daughter’s birthday. Took the 1646 bus to get home early for cake and candles. Almost one hour later and I am in . Great stuff I am sure there will be some cake left.

Fantastic visualisation of the role of frontal systems in cleaning out surface level pollution.

I am not sure which is more impressive... The fast turnaround on this paper, or that the editor somehow got reviewer responses before March!

This can only be (a) someone who is not a parent; (b) someone who doesn’t actually live in the real world; (c) a pompous asshat. Or possibly all 3.

If you envisage spending this weekend wondering about environmental change, air pollutants, and space-borne instrumentation, then why not use that time to apply for this?

Air pollution damages the health of even the healthiest athletes. Global warming enhances air pollution in 3 major ways: It increases rates of chemical formation of pollutants It increases prevalence of fires It increases emission rates of biogenic gases
