It's incredible how much work goes into doing things right vs doing things to get them done. So many seemingly tiny, inconsequential decisions actually have huge ramifications. So much of our work building design systems involves holding these tiny things up to the light.

Today ' new book Inclusive Components comes out! In a world where lots of us are building design systems, gluing together JS component systems, and 97.8% of sites have accessibility issues, I can't think of a more valuable topic for a book.

Never underestimate the intense level of intellectual fatigue that comes from feeling like you must be continually careful. Low psychological safety isn't always about overt assholes; it's also about quiet but relentless organizational resistance to new ideas and experiments.

✩ There are still a lot of you who do this work in the service of people we used to call ‘end-users,’ and who will care about web standards and inclusive, accessible design for as long as you’re here to practice it.”

After 4-5 years of learning how to apply everything I know about building UIs to component architecture, I've written down why this has been so challenging and what I think works:

🎉 vs code insiders has search results in a tab. add `"search.enableSearchEditorPreview": true` to user prefs. this is one thing i still miss from sublime when using vs code. wish this was the default but that might be coming in a future iteration.
