Today we celebrate and honor the legacy of enslaved African Americans who learned of their freedom on this day in 1865. Their struggle continues to inspire us today as we seek to strengthen our democracy and push our nation to live up to its Constitutional ideals.

I’m looking forward to testifying in Washington before the House Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties on the 6th anniversary of the dreadful Shelby decision, which has paved the way for voter suppression efforts in Georgia and throughout the South.

State officials just revealed that the full number of poor elderly or disabled Georgians they are slated to drop from Medicaid rolls is 30,000, more than the 17,000 they reported earlier this month.

Let’s be clear: this is as though the entire population of Tifton or Norcross or St. Marys lost their health insurance. As a community, we have agreed to support the elderly and disabled and mitigate unnecessary hardship. Georgia must honor our commitment.

Step 1 in leadership is taking responsibility. 17,000 poor elderly or disabled Georgians risk of loss of healthcare. Doesn’t matter how it happened. (Though I doubt 17,000 folks suffered collective amnesia.) State should make renewal its priority.

Business relies on predictability - too many companies will face growing uncertainty in our healthcare environment. This forced pregnancy bill targets women but every Georgian is at risk if we lose doctors, jobs and billions.

We had productive conversations with execs, show runners, actors & more. If companies , we can save jobs, build power and most importantly, protect women. While the call to leave resonates for some, we must leverage the time before a final determination to lead. 1/2

17,000 of Georgia’s most vulnerable face the loss of essential care. Cause: 1. State error or 2. A pop. the size of Fayetteville or Tifton somehow forgot to keep their life-saving healthcare. Either way, GA should take responsibility & fix the problem.

92,000 Georgians work in our vibrant film industry — I will do everything I can to protect their jobs, while urging the industry to invest in fundamental, lasting change so that a woman’s right to control her own body is respected in the State of Georgia.
