The Transport Sec hasn’t said he’s stripping Northern of its rail franchise. He asked Arriva (who own Northern) and the government’s Operator of Last Resort to come up with proposals to improve service. That process was announced last autumn and is still on going.

TransPennine Express met with MPs to discuss dismal performance. Company continues to blame driver training schedule saying "our current performance is not acceptable, and we are working hard to fix this.” 46% of trains late or cancelled today.
