I explore arcane bits and bytes, have some startups. To the public I'm mostly known for my work on Cappuccino.

My wife asked me why I was speaking so softly at home. I told her I was afraid Mark Zuckerberg was listening! She laughed. I laughed. Alexa laughed. Siri laughed.

First WWDC that felt really exciting that I can remember for a while. Sure, there's something fun in each WWDC, but this one just kept outdoing itself at every step.

Yeah and every few weeks I get a call about insurance related to a car accident I’ve apparently been in despite not owning a car.

Yes their support page was green for the first 30 minutes of the downtime, which is why I suspect they didn't get error reports from their customers fast enough. Because no-one could figure out how to contact them.

I sympathise with the impulse to screen out customers. I do. But when the service you're selling is literally down, saying "why don't you post your question on Stack Overflow?" is... not entirely helpful.

Google Cloud has had a networking issue for 45 minutes. I tried to tell about it. Their support page goes like this: "here are 200 ways *not* to contact us!" The best one was "comment in this Google group! Oh, it requires Google+ which we won't let you sign up for."

(* Unless the US plan is different from the UK one. Also it's only "no cost" if you intended to buy Apple Care Plus with your phone. It is required if you get the plan but, naturally, optional if you buy your phone up front. Anyhow, that's just my understanding.)

Basically it's an interest free 24 month payment plan, with an option to trade in your phone for 50% of the value towards the next one. Even if you never exercise that option, you still got to reduce your immediate capital expenditure at no cost.*

Yeah they used to be a little ugly but simple and straightforward. When they launched the new design there was a "migration" step. That immediately set of alarm bells.

I did. Keyboard support is generally pretty good but with some surprising shortcomings (see my tweet about Safari first responder/key window behaviour for example).

After a week of iPad exclusive use, I have my laptop back. Urge to touch the screen all the time is overwhelming. Also, trying to put my Mac to sleep by squeezing an imaginary button on the upper left side of the screen.

That's a great use of the Shortcuts app. Much easier to set up than a bookmarklet. If it does allow unrestricted JavaScript injection, a shortcut could be used to actually fix unselectable text behaviour on webpages too (by massaging the CSS).

There are situations when text selection is impossible on the iPad. Not hard, simply not possible. The gif posted in this thread is one example. iTunes Connect is another. No need to talk about "easy" or "hard" selection is in the absence of selection at all.

Just saw a FedEx Express truck. In the future maybe they’ll rename to FedExEx for short. Eventually we’ll have FedExEx Express.
