This is the on the Syria debacle: “Sometimes you have to let them fight like two kids. Then you pull them apart.” Reality check: Hundreds of Kurds killed. An ally betrayed. A victory for Russia, Assad, Iran and total capitulation to the Turks. And new life for ISIS.

Reading logs are a terrible idea: "Students with mandatory logs expressed declines in both interest and attitudes toward recreational reading in comparison to peers with voluntary logs."

No, pushing it is not essential. Does ANYBODY in your department read the research? Has anybody read Teitelbaum, Salzman?

Hi. There is no level of corruption greater than a President participating in the award of a contract to himself. We have reached the bottom. If the Senate will not act to stop this, there is no government ethics program. It's over.

Some Trump supporters turn to Cthulhu, even more in tune with their values:“Cthulhu (is) humanity’s most basic nightmare, high priest of the Great Old Ones. They will return, causing worldwide insanity, mindless violence before finally displacing humanity.”

I've always believed Trump is ultimately determined to destroy himself -- to confirm his own lifelong conviction that the world is out to get him. In the middle of being impeached, he decides to hold the G-7 at his own hotel. Self-dealing. Clear and undeniable. Jaw dropping.

Improvement on TOEFL through reading and without formal instruction. S Krashen (2018) College grads in Turkey made small gains using English on the job, about 10 TOEFL points a year. Reading only about one page a day would have doubled their gains.

I wear my CTU (Chicago Teachers Union) red shirt at the gym (Gold’s Gym, Venice, CA). Last week, a young lifter signaled me to go first using some equipment (dumbbell for preacher curls), cheerfully saying “you first, you’re a teacher.”
