When something bad happens, and media report on it, the media did not cause the bad thing to happen. They report on it to keep it from being ignored or avoided, covered up or repeated. A world in which bad things are ignored, avoided, covered and repeated is not a good one.

Even if she wasn't "smart" and didn't have degrees, Jen is owed a better life than wasting away in a seniors' home. But, as a disabled women, it's exhausting to always show our resumes and assure people we're "smart" in order for them to care and be interested.
