Any system depends on constructive engagement by its players; and any system can be gamed in non-constructive ways. What and how people post on @biorxivpreprint will affect their reputation among colleagues.

The last few weeks have also shown how @biorxivpreprint can be extremely useful in rapid dissemination of new results among scientists: wired.com/story/coronavi…

I think the key here is in the word “discuss”, which is another level from “citing”. As scientist we should be well trained to pick info we think it’s worthy and trustworthy from ANY manuscript. So, go on and let’s discuss preprints!

Peer review of a manuscript shouldn’t end once the work is published and also doesn’t land solely on the shoulders of “the reviewers”. We should all be evaluating the work of our peers as we’re reading it. Work on @biorxivpreprint certainly should be cited, with that in mind.

If we want to make the @biorxivpreprint model a success, we'll need to properly acknowledge precedence in our citation behaviour: if you rush out your results because someone posted theirs on @biorxivpreprint, you should at least discuss their results in your paper, right?

I haven't tweeted politics much lately, but today is special. @Stephen_Curry sums it up well below.
Despite its nastiness in recent politics the UK remains an incredible place to do science, but tonight I will just drown my sorrows with @Ian_Hutchinson & @BriggsGroup.

Happy to see this out! In the Proceedings of the @ccp_em Spring Symposium in @ActaCrystD. Hopefully this will be useful for many who are doing #amyloid (and other helical) reconstructions in #RELION. twitter.com/cryoEM_Papers/…

By the way, assuming ribosome's diameter is 300 A, Ewald sphere curvature starts to matter at around 2.1 A. It is worth trying Ewald sphere correction in relion_reconstruct or cisTEM.

A new section in RELION wiki explains when the pixel size of a reconstruction changes from the input, especially after CtfRefine's magnification refinement.

It was fantastic to finally meet "in microscope". I liked the curves of the Tecnai Arctica box you're in! 😋 I was also very pleased to meet your smaller, yet much older, cousin below! I forgot to ask: what's their name? pic.twitter.com/k0bDGRhy6w

Thanks for the invite, Julien! I had a great day. This was my first ever (partial) chalk talk. Great the projector got fixed before I got to the #tau structures themselves. Drawing structures on the blackboard is not impossible for amyloids, but the slides are surely prettier! 🤣
