++1 for Zcow-pow (one). No-one can ever remember the gene name, and this might rescue us!

PS I set the "chromosome-wide" version of this question (for a sample of size n) as an Oxford finals problem in 2017!

However the bound increases so quickly with recombination rate it essentially gives infinite time (many chunks coinciding in the same individual is really unlikely), for a whole chromosome.

+1 for Griffiths and Marjoram '97, which has I think the formula for the "grand TMRCA" of a sample. I think that's the first individual ancestral to a whole stretch of DNA.

Another ZCWPW1 paper , here from the Liu group, has hit biorXiv! That makes 3 in the last fortnight, with our preprint and the preprint . Hopefully this gene is feeling properly loved at last.

I have come to love it! After all, it's number 1, among all (both) the ZCWPW genes.

Our new preprint on the co-evolution of a dual histone methyltransferase (PRDM9) and it’s reader (ZCWPW1) that controls recombination patterns in vertebrates is out. Great collaboration with Nussenzweig and Cheng labs. Congrats to Mohamed and Jacob!

Congratulations to , , , and on publishing their fabulous new methods for inferring genealogical trees from whole genomes! Here's my take on why these papers make it a great day for population genetics:

Remaking genetics one inferred tree (sequence) at a time... Was such a pleasure to be involved in this project!
