In 2019, for the first time in history, the Editors-in-Chief of the law reviews at the top 16 U.S. law schools were women. We are proud to have 's 2019 EIC Grace Paras (L’20) represent us among this extraordinary group of future lawyers.

Once again, gets a bipartisan standing ovation at the ! Members of Congress worked across the aisle to pass the First Step Act and Fair Chance Act and we're looking forward to working with both sides to make sure they are fully implemented.

Briefs should be written in a positive-negative format: First your affirmative argument for why you win. Then why counterarguments are wrong. This goes for reply briefs too! Believe it or not, some judges actually pick up the reply brief first!

For years, California police officers come into court & testified as “gang experts.” But many of the ppl they convicted--all black and brown--were not in a gang. It was all made up. And the scandal is only getting bigger and worse.

Nearly 62% of people detained in jails are there, not because it’s in their best interest, but due to their inability to pay bail. Money injustice creates a cycle of poverty. In NOLA, it’s used to criminalize and incarcerate low-income Black people too.

Listening to at and event tell his story about serving 21 years for a nonviolent offense. He’s urging MS to change our habitual offender laws. Standing room only crowd at Manship.

I sure hope Congress decides to keep pushing on . We’ve only had reform at the margins and there is a lot left to do in just reforming the federal CR system, let alone what Congress can do to encourage states.

As Raffi says, it’s about maximizing your skill set. Need someone to give a tear jerker opening statement or perform a killer CX? Not your girl. If it involves persuasive writing or arguing to a judge, that’s in my wheelhouse. Don’t limit yourself too soon. Try everything.

Most clemency grants bypass DOJ and go to well-connected offenders

I hope that both sides of the aisle realize that criminal justice reform is not the third rail of politics anymore. It should be in both parties' platforms from here forward.

From LA jail to NY bail, it was a year of reform—at the state level. But setbacks & regressive policies continue to return, hindering progressive prosecutors & energizing local activists. Vera’s report collects the top 15 stories of 2019.

Can’t quite believe we’re at a point where Trump highlighted criminal justice reform and clemency in his ad in the Super Bowl. Not sure what to say other than this shows criminal justice reform can be a winning issue for anyone.

Nearly ⅔ of people in jail have not been convicted of a crime. They are there because they can't afford to pay bail. 2019 was the year made it clear that ending without measures to decarcerate won’t deliver meaningful .

Newly confirmed Judge Eric Komitee is seeking law clerks. He’s a great guy with an enormous breadth of experience and would be a great mentor. Highly recommended.

Interesting point here by . Facts alone would have compelled some GOP senators to convict, but knowing the stiff mandatory penalty (removal from office) prompted them to nullify. Maybe all juries should be so empowered to know the consequences of their decisions.

A former prosecutor realizing on camera that being a former prosecutor doesn’t guarantee electability anymore. And the whole “a prosecutor’s job is to do justice” slogan is so worn and untrue. Prosecutors are fallible human beings, with the same failings as everyone else.
