BTW the clearest definition of "extensions" that I've seen is: "Extensions provide a mechanism for extending the functionality of an underlying service without changing the actual implementation of that service nor impacting its reliability."

Speed is next since otherwise teams are likely to build themselves Cost is last since there's a lot of nuance, there's cognitive load, dev training, resources needed to build/maintain Everyone complains about Datadog bill but hard to build a solution that scalable & performant

In many cases something that is not "compliant" yet will still be used because it is easy to use & consistent, lack of consistency may actually trump compliance since if you use a product and you're not sure what the outcome will be from last time, that's a problem

IMO Ease of Use is first because that is the only way you get adoption in the first place Consistency & Compliance go hand in hand since need compliance (SOC 2 etc) to get approved for business use cases but without consistency tooling won't be adopted in the first place

Love this Developer's Hierarchy of Needs from Cloudflare, I would prioritize Cost<Speed<Consistency<Compliance<Ease of Use. Decreasing friction to use is most important imo, cost least important (folks complain about bill but rarely churn b/c of cost)

More evidence of org structure shaping strategy and how structural shifts require a huge shift in org structure (like what Kurian is doing in GCP or what Nadella did in Microsoft), Conway's Law again Great article h/t

As an example Shopify was founded in 2004 and launched its App Store in 2009, I imagine roam is still farther away from launching a store w/ standardized security and rails but still it’s built extensible from day one to allow folks to build extensions on top off

It’s cool to see how quickly Roam is becoming a platform, usually it takes longer for this to happen but since Roam is dominating a niche where many happen to be devs looking for solutions, the platform evolution is happening much sooner, fun case study live, great job

Particularly good newsletter from Ed today about developer tooling and the unique motion that is required to succeed in this market , analyzing public companies and applying to younger startups

So true, I couldn’t wait to be on my 1st board & then I realized that it’s just a way to get all stakeholders coordinated The real work happens day to day and behind the scenes, slack messages, random texts, phone calls on weekends or in evenings. Being the first call > board

I'm so excited to share I'm co-chairing this year's first *virtual* with . We worked hard to make the CFP something appealing to the times and to really dig into the unique positions SREs and organizations are finding themselves in during 2020.

Great interview w/ by ! Especially like the mental models that Nick applies to various aspects of investing and how without explicitly meaning to, the focus on people first is apparent throughout every response
