New York Times covering the abolitionist movement in 1859: "They are as rancorous and abusive as if they were on the point of utter annihilation. Their speeches sound more like the ravings of Bedlamites than the utterances of men seeking the accomplishment of a practical object."

Like it's great as a matter of accessing a broader array of people, I suppose. But how cool would it be to have access to the language of my ancestors?

I agree! But conceptually I am uncomfortable with the realization this is true because of colonization/imperialism, juxtaposed with the fact that I can easily find dozens if not hundreds of ways to learn the romance languages but struggle to find indigenous language resources.

If you’re a writer who’s marginalized in one way, please don’t make the mistake of thinking you can’t do harm or appropriate another marginalized experience. If you’re a white disabled person, you can appropriate POC experiences, and it’s not OV.

Agreed! Ever since I stopped making myself feel guilty about eating certain foods or overeating, my relationship with food improved vastly. Now I am less likely to binge unless I'm going through a really rough patch, and that's clearly an act of self-soothing, not "being bad"

My dad literally thought that a Korean man was screaming slurs at him because of this. Several years late I learned it meant "I" so in that context it makes that story kind've funny. (fortunately there was no altercation)

This government can only define safety in the form of a gun, a cage, or a coffin. To end gender violence, we have to end state violence. Tell Trump to draw the line at his endless deathmaking and stay the execution of Lisa Montgomery.

I mean I have been so physically exhausted to the point I can only really keep up with taking care of my dog, yet I have this weird simultaneous hopefulness that means mentally I'm a bit more sharp and able to read bad news without the same level of panic.

Interesting and makes so much sense. I wonder how we should cope with the constant tension between "primitive brain" relaxing and conscious brain screaming "STAY VIGILANT! IT AIN'T OVER. DO NOT RELAX!"

I looked at the 8 races House Ds lost. I came to the conclusion that AOC is right abt the need for deep canvassing. It appears the swings in these districts over the past three general elections are too volatile to say any one message (i.e., Medicare for All or 'socialism')...

In that phase where I start signing up for zoom panels again. Does this mean my mental health has finally improved? or that I'm overly-ambitious?
