We grieve for those affected by the violence and devastation of today’s attacks in Sri Lanka. Today of all days we are reminded of the sacrifices that have been made for peace, and that love will always rise up and triumph over hate.

Congratulations to our scholarship applicants and winners! With a record-breaking number of mind-blowing submissions, it’s important to remember that even if you weren’t awarded a scholarship, there is no education or effort that is in vain.

I don't really have words for how I feel about Notre Dame today, but the closest I can get is thinking about how impossible losing something as immutable and symbolic as that cathedral felt before today. It's like watching an ocean dry up, it wasn't supposed to be possible.

Trying to make sense of the loss of Notre Dame, I think about how the Franks so greatly admired the glory of Rome, tried so hard to remake it in Charlemagne’s Dom at Aachen. Tried, and got it wrong. And instead made something new and beautiful.

To image a black hole they needed half a ton of hard drives containing five petabytes of data. The fastest way to transfer that data? Airplane. An airplane data transfer from Mauna Kea to Massachusetts would have a data rate of roughly 14GB per second.

Loving that Disney Legend Peter Ellenshaw’s designs predicted the look of a Black Hole more accurately with paint than a lot of gee-whiz computer animation since.
