I'm so glad these tech companies are exploring the possibilities of computational photography. It seems they will be the ones that'll move us forward. I thought camera companies would be the ones pushing the boundaries, but at times it seems they don't even care.

Computational photography is gaining ground. I wonder when camera-companies will catch up.

A change in my planning is that I now find myself thinking about concepts like colors (palette); capturing "a moment"; the light; the time; besides the usual suspect: "composition". I now take more time to look at other photographers work.

A change in my workflow that I never anticipated is that I now use lightroom presets. gave me access —as part of a giveaway— and their presets are a blessing (very well thought out).

I started with a full-frame Canon 5d (a gift). After months of hiking with that "brick" and a tripod, a friend let me use his Sony APS-C camera and I switched for the weight savings alone. Weight is important to me.

You didn't ask about the opposite of waste of time/money/energy, but I consider the time/money/energy spent on learning lightroom and photoshop a great investment. Also, the time learning to use an external flash.

When I started, I devoured anything gear-related that I could find on YouTube. Now I'm tired of gear, gear, gear, gear... I wish YouTube content focused on taking photographs would account for 90% of what I see.

When I started I read on your book that I would learn to "see the light". For the first two years I wasn't sure I had learned anything related to that. I'm now under the impression that I've learned a little. I still keep my eyes wide-open.

When I started, I wanted to learn everything that was camera-related. Now I dream about lightning. Also, I'm now in search for the Northrup's equivalent for learning videography. For audio, I settled on

When I started I had the 28-300mm lens I was using close to 300mm most of the time. In time I learned to appreciate other focal lengths.

"Gear Lust"... I'll adopt this term and use it instead of G.A.S. (Gear Acquisition Syndrome), so much better!
