Specifically: 63% of devs *use* TypeScript (a big chunk of that is Angular users, who "use TypeScript" because Angular is written in TS). 36% of JS devs say "I myself *write* TypeScript most or all of the time"

Now the number makes a lot more sense, but still 36% is a *lot* higher than I thought!! Very cool, thanks for sharing!

How would it feel if we were still supporting coffee script?

It's kind of a strange hypothetical. If CoffeeScript had ever hit this level of adoption, CoffeeScript would probably be something better that we would enjoy using.

I don’t have a better comparison but my point is that it was popular and now it’s time has passed but JS remains

My take is that TS has hit a critical mass that CS never did and is going to stick around, but it's just an opinion.

I do also think this is an effect of timing. CoffeeScript was a nice to have when our ecosystem was medium-sized. TypeScript adds a key DX features that is useful at a time when our community is massive.

In the example you just gave, all of those people are actually writing TypeScript because that's the only supported language Angular supports. I think next time around, there should be some clarification around what "using TypeScript" means because it keeps tripping people up.

I mean, presumably people are using Angular because they like TypeScript, not trapped using TypeScript because they like Angular so much. There are lots of alternative frameworks if you don't like TS.

As I said it’s great, I usually use it myself, but it ain’t JavaScript. I would have used coffee script too.

I certainly agree that it's not JavaScript, but not sure why that would hold us back from supporting it.
