On my way to work, a construction worker yelled at me: "Coronavirus." In my 7.5 years of living in US, this was my first encounter with outright racism (surprisingly). Hi, America.

YAML is the devil, dear god, lack of any validation of configs and whitespace sensitivity is so insane. No idea if passed configs take effect… Detective work for hours since...

When i refactor things in Rust / move props i'm confident that once i cleaned up the errors i actually created 0 new bugs. Strong Typing helps so much there, im ashamed to not have realised this sooner. C++ just made me resentful and TypeScript felt like waste of iteration speed

Just watched talk on rio/sled/io_uring at Fosdem, and it's great. I learned something on the rust side, but I'd recommend it even if you're just curious about what io_uring is and can help you with. Video in the link below.

Alright. Inspired by this tweet, I decided to read all relevant preprints (about 30 in all). Here's what I've found, a thread. 1/15

the real improvements to be had are in the build system, not the compiler. Hash-based instead of mtime-based builds, distributed caches and so on.

It is amazing that some fathom that GPT-2 just needs more data to reach comprehension and intelligent. well portrays how misguided is this notion.

Metacontrarian take on nCoV: Your panic is the real pandemic. We live in an age of anxiety, where global connected media have driven us to a fever pitch of unhealthy obsession with irrelevant distant events. Our brains are hijacked by amplified signals of primitive threats.

Only thing is the forcing function the borrowchecker puts on your relationship of code to data. And that hurts. Buts its also extremely valuable usually.

Increasing trend: people talking about policy and rules for 'data'. 'You own your data', 'data should be portable', 'there should be a EU market/rules/rules for data'. The problem with this: there is no such fucking thing as 'data' 1/
