The community has many stories of police glancing at our eyes & immediately assuming intoxication, illegal substance use, or criminal intent. Those of us who are blind and Black face the dual forces of and racism. 3/5

please dont forget the intersection of race & ability. similar to black people and police brutality, people with disabilities are at higher risk of being abused and mistreated. This is just one example of intersectional lives on the line. RIP AJ 💜

Regardless of the “story” the LAPD would like to spin, the facts are indisputable. Video footage shows: Police officers pushed Joshua to the ground, out of his wheelchair. Officers then THREW his chair, appearing to break it.

Black & Indigenous people are more likely to be disabled in the US, yet they're still underrepresented amongst disabled scientists. Remember: If your fight for the inclusion of disabled folx isn't intersectional, you're doing it wrong. 💁🏽‍♀️

An estimated 50% of the police brutality against Black people in the US are also disabled. Call it out. Be anti-racist. It is in all our interests. I hope this man and his chair are okay. Behaving like this is not okay.

I watch and wonder how badly are his legs fractured? They also damaged his wheelchair -- how badly? Can it be repaired? How will he function in the interim? This is outrageous.
