That's the sort of thing that got me wondering yeah. I've always thought of modern as the latest stuff we can practically use now, without processing stuff out, or adding backfills and whatnot.

How do you use the term "modern" with regards to HTML, CSS, or JS? Is it about when a feature is first standardized? Or when browsers support it broadly?

One fun benefit of this little project so far has been reorienting myself with the video element API, and captioning in particular. The intro isn't the most thorough implementation but hopefully it's a useful start for how I'll make the lectures more accessible.
